Twyfelfontein berginnskrifter

Step back thousands of years at Twyfelfontein, Namibia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Africa’s most important collections of ancient rock engravings. Hidden among the sandstone hills of Damaraland, this remarkable open-air gallery features more than 2,500 petroglyphs created by San hunter-gatherers and Khoikhoi herders between 2,000 and 10,000 years ago. Join a guided walk through a maze of red rock formations as your guide reveals the stories behind the engravings. Look out for elegant giraffes, elephants, rhinos and ostriches, as well as the famous ‘Lion Man’ and the surprisingly detailed image of a seal, carved hundreds of kilometres from the ocean. Part history lesson, part outdoor adventure, Twyfelfontein offers a rare glimpse into Damaraland’s distant past.
